Cone Crusher Maintenance: 7 Tips to Extend Service Life

A well-maintained cone crusher runs for years. A neglected one costs you downtime and money. These seven tips keep your machine healthy.

1. Check the lubrication system daily

Oil is the lifeblood of a cone crusher. Check the oil level, temperature and pressure every day. Change oil and filters according to the manual schedule.

2. Monitor the closed side setting

An incorrect CSS causes poor product shape and overload. Measure and record the CSS regularly, and adjust it as liners wear.

3. Inspect liners for uneven wear

Uneven wear means the feed distribution is wrong. A proper feed distributor keeps liners wearing evenly and extends their life significantly.

4. Keep the feed consistent

Never run a cone crusher with a trickle feed. Feed it consistently at the rated capacity, with material distributed evenly around the crushing chamber.

5. Protect against tramp iron

Use a metal detector or magnet before the crusher. Even with spring or hydraulic protection, removing tramp metal before it enters saves wear and prevents damage.

6. Check belts and tension

Loose belts slip, overheat and reduce throughput. Check belt tension and condition weekly.

7. Stock critical spare parts

Keep manganese liners, seals and spare bearings in stock. A spare set of liners can be the difference between a 4-hour change and a 4-week wait.
